What to Watch on Netflix (Kenyan Content)

The Kenyan Film industry has come a long way. From the times of Cobra Squad and Tausi. We are now at a point where you can watch our movies/series on Netflix. This is such a huge step for the industry’s growth. In no particular order, below are Kenyan Films on Netflix.

  1. 40 Sticks (2020)40 Sticks is a 2020 Kenyan thriller film produced by SensePLAY, a Kenyan audio-visual production house, an arm of Password Ventures Ltd. It premiered on Netflix on November 20, 2020, showing in Africa, the US, the UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. 40 Sticks is the fourth Kenyan film to premiere on Netflix in 2020

Plot: When their prison bus crashes in a forest on a rainy night, a group of criminals finds themselves battling wild animals and a mysterious killer.

2. Sincerely Daisy (2020) Sincerely Daisy is a 2020 Kenyan coming-of-age romantic comedy film produced and directed by popular actor Nick Mutuma.

Plot: A happy high school graduate’s dreams, romance– and confidence– are shaken when family and relationship drama put her plans for the future in doubt.

3. Uradi (2020) – “Uradi”, is a feature-length film revolving around a young man who goes to Nairobi (Kenya’s capital City) for higher education.

Plot: A university student tries to make some quick and easy cash, but learns that it is not as simple as he imagined.

4. Just in Time (2019) – The film, shot in Nairobi Kenya (2019), made its debut worldwide on Netflix on March 12, 2021.

Plot: A meticulous clerk for a book store that has just been shuttered suddenly finds herself taking care of her cousin’s witty 11-year old daughter.

5. Disconnect (2018)Disconnect is a 2018 Kenyan romantic comedy film directed by David ‘Tosh’ Gitonga and Michael Jones. The film stars Kenyan actress Brenda Wairimu and actor Nick Mutuma who lead a diverse cast that explores the dating scene in Nairobi.

Plot: A group of singletons stumbles through the wild dating scene in Nairobi as two friends wonder if their relationship is more than platonic.

6. Poacher (2018)Poacher is a 2018 Kenyan / British short film directed by Tom Whitworth. The film received wide international attention after its release on Netflix in September 2020. It also became the first-ever Kenyan film to be released via Netflix.

Plot: A daring farmer steals illicit ivory from a group of international terrorists and must elude their dangerous and deadly games.
